How Do You Waterproof A Basement By Installing A Sump Pump?
Water problems in your basement can destroy your home and furnishings. Installing a sump pump is one way to waterproof your basement and avoid accumulating water. A sump pump may not solve all of your water problems, but it is one of the simplest measures you can take to protect your important investments. Use a jackhammer to cut out and remove 18 inches of the concrete floor around the perimeter of the floor. Cut down to a depth of the footing and dirt underneath. Dig a trench that is 1 foot wide and 8 inches deep next to the footing. Cut out a pit in the concrete with the jackhammer for the sump pump; make sure the pit is close to a GFCI-protected outlet so you can connect the pump. The pit should be deep enough so that the sump pump can fit into it and deep enough so that the top of the sump pump is even with the floor. Shovel 2 inches of gravel into the bottom of the trench. Lay the drain tile inside the trench around the perimeter of your floor, running both ends into the sump pum
