How Do You Wall-Mount A Plasma TV To Aluminum Studs?
On occasion, wall-mounting a television is not as straightforward as installers would like. Running into metal studs versus conventional wood members is one such occurrence. Metal studs do not offer the same torsional strength as 2-by-4 wood studs, so additional support is required prior to applying any significant additional weight to the wall. Ironically, the key component in doing so is adding wood and multiple screws to dramatically increase the rigidity of the mounting surface to prevent an accident involving a costly television. Measure the size of the portion of the wall mount that attaches to the wall. Cut a piece of plywood two inches larger on all sides. Find two studs using the metal stud finder. Mark these locations using a pencil. Drill pilot holes one inch from the edge of the cut piece of plywood, using the 3/16-inch bit. Drill as many as will fit, one inch apart. Place the board on the wall. Screw in one sheet metal screw in the upper left corner, hitting the metal stud
