If you’re a young person with a heart for peer ministry or an adult who likes youth, Teens Encounter Christ (TEC) is the program for you. Volunteers are the lifeblood of this Catholic youth movement. In fact, two volunteers founded TEC in Battle Creek, Michigan, in 1965: Father Matthew Fedewa, a senior high school teacher, and Dorothy Gereke, administrator of the hospital where the first retreat was held. If you are interested in volunteering, just follow these steps. Find the closest TEC center by contacting your diocesan youth ministry office or the TEC Conference, which directs the ministry in the United States and internationally. Go on a TEC weekend either as a youth candidate, age 17 to 24, or an adult observer, age 25 and older. The best way to learn about the movement is to experience it firsthand.
