Volunteer to assist with the handling of the quilt when it makes an appearance in your area since the opening of the quilt always requires a few hundred helping hands. The 9/11 Victims Memorial Quilt Project also needs volunteers to act as guides during the showing to protect the quilt and to assist the disabled and the elderly. While the quilt has been displayed in rooms of less than 8,000 square feet, it loses its emotional impact unless it can be fully opened.
