How Do You Vent A Poorly Designed Roof?
Many older homes do not have properly designed roofs. This not only affects the roof structure, but it can also cause moisture problems in ceiling areas. If part or all of your house’s roof isn’t vented properly, there are ways to improve air circulation. You will need to examine your home’s attic spaces and make sure you improve venting underneath each section of the roof’s overhang. Check out the overhang area of each section of roof to make sure there are no decayed spots in the soffit areas. You will need to install metal vents that measure approximately 6 inches by 8 inches along the soffits. Place a vent every six to eight feet in the bottom area of the overhang. You’ll need to place the vents between roof beams that extend into all overhang areas. Cut through the soffit with a jigsaw while taking care to avoid any electrical wiring.
