How Do You Use Worm Box Compost In The Garden?
Your worms are working hard and making lots of wonderful compost. What to do with all of it? After harvesting your compost, identify areas of your garden that could use some rich worm fertilizer such as perennials, vegetable garden, flowers and trees. For perennials, top dress around the plant being sure to stay away from the trunk. Roots generally radiate out under a plant the same distance as the branches. Do this before you mulch and as it rains, the compost will break down and the nutrients will go down to the roots. For vegetable gardens, mix into soil at least a month before you plant seeds or seedlings. Probably make the compost no more than 10-15 % of the soil. The compost is very strong and should not be used 100% for planting vegetables. Allow the soil to rest before planting. March is a great month for this. Flower beds: You can top dress flower beds in winter or very early spring before flowers start sprouting.
