How Do You Use Translucent Paper For Water Media?
Translucent paper is important in architecture, fine arts and crafts. Some papers are not even paper–they can be plastic or a combination of the two– and some are archival. All of these papers require thin applications of paint; heavy applications would weigh the papers down. Gouache or casein may be used, but ink, pencil and watercolor are the most popular mediums. Draw an image on the Yupo (polypropylene) paper with a watercolor pencil. If you are not satisfied with it, wipe it off with some water and a tissue and start again. Squeeze out some watercolor paint on a saucer or watercolor palette. Mix some water into the paint. It should have the consistency of heavy cream. Paint the image in any manner you like. The paint will look streaky, but if you blot it by placing a piece of non-oily facial tissue over sections of it and at the same time going over the back of the tissue with a foam roller, it will take on a flatter, more pleasing appearance.
