The tool cannot solve a network issue, but it can help you start the troubleshooting process. Traceroute executes in the Windows command line, and it returns the IP address and computer name for the remote computer. If the computer is powered on and attached to the network, the traceroute utility is successful. Traceroute helps troubleshoot when a computer has lost network connectivity due to hardware issues such as a broken cable or network card. Click the Windows “Start” button and select “Run.” Enter “cmd” into the text box. Click “OK” to open your Windows command prompt.
