How Do You Use The Provost In Caylus?
Caylus is a popular strategic board game that has spent lots of time on BGG’s list of the world’s 10 best board games. Players take turns placing workers on a board of actions, and then most of the actions are carried out. The catch is, before the actions happen there’s a piece called the Provost and as it moves it determines which actions succeed and which actions fail. Calculate the maximum unwanted backwards movement from the bailiff. This will be three spaces for each player in the game. Try to place pieces behind that space if possible, since any pieces behind the line will be safe no matter what. Look at the actions three spaces in front of the bailiff. If any of them are incredibly good (for example, take gold), it may be worth the risk to push the provost forward and grab one. Weigh the benefits of controlling the provost. Taking the provost space will let you move the provost an additional three spaces in either direction, thereby allowing or restriction actions of any workers
