How Do You Use Teflon Tape Properly?
Plumbing is the system of pipes and fixtures that carry water throughout a building for use and consumption and then out again as sewage. Plumbing systems are normally threaded metal pipes screwed together at their joints. Wherever two pipes are threaded together is a weak spot in the plumbing system. These weak spots were traditionally reinforced with “pipe dope”, a thick paste that was painted onto the threads. Teflon tape is a quicker, cleaner, more efficient method of covering pipe threads. Grasp the male threaded pipe in your left hand with the threaded end pointing to the right. Place the end of the Teflon tape at the beginning of the threads at the end of the pipe. Wrap the tape around the threads of the pipe. Each revolution around the pipe you will overlap your previous wrap with 1/2 the width of the tape. Place your thumb on the tape when you reach the end of the threads and pull the roll breaking the tape. Insert the taped, male threaded pipe into the female threaded pipe. T
