Stretch elastic beading cord is a versatile, inexpensive jewelry making supply. The cord is made of a stretchable plastic onto which beads are placed to create jewelry. It is most commonly available in clear, but can also be purchased in other colors as well. The biggest advantage that stretch cord provides is that bracelets and necklaces do not have to be sized for an individual person since the cord will stretch. Choose the largest diameter of elastic beading cord that fits the hole inside the beads. The cord is available in 5 mm, .8 mm and 1 mm diameters. To determine the diameter of the bead hole, look on the bead packaging or simply take a bead with you to purchase the cord. Cut a piece of elastic beading cord to the desired size using scissors.
