How Do You Use Straws Around The House?
Straws were invented to allow the sipping of a mint julep without holding it and subsequently warming it with the hands. Originally fashioned of the hollow stems of rye grasses, straws were first made of paper in 1888. We call them “drinking straws” but they have many other uses around the house. Make too-short flowers just the right height for a floral arrangement. Stick the stems into plastic straws. Trim the straws to the needed height and insert them into the arrangement. Make sure the water level is sufficient to reach the stems. Prevent knots in the string of a pull toy. Run the string through a straw, or a series of straws, to keep it knot- and tangle-free. Start the ketchup flowing from a full bottle. Stick a straw all the way into the bottle and stir it around a bit to start the ketchup moving. Store jewelry chains in straws to prevent knotting and tangling. Cut a plastic straw just less than half the length of the chain. Drop one end of the chain through the straw and close t
