For guitar players wanting to bulk up their playing style, there are several popular ways to do speed picking, also known as “shredding” in modern electric guitar language. Here are some great speed picking techniques. Do legato techniques. Legato (means “tied together” in Italian) is when you use plucking methods to get multiple notes out of one string, and it makes your note play really, really fast. Use “double picking” or “tremolo picking.” These techniques are similar; you stay on one note and pick the heck out of it. Tremolo picking got its name because when you pick fast enough, it gives your note a wavering tremolo sound. Use rakes and sweeps.
