While Final Draft and Movie Magic are considered to be the standards for scriptwriting formats, there are a number of other programs that will format your screenplay as you type. Sophocles isn’t listed as one of the big two, but it will do everything you want software to do while you write your script. Go to the Sophocles website and download the trial version of the program. Install the program on your computer by clicking on the setup icon. Open the software and begin to write. The only keys you will need to remember are the “Enter” key for scenes and action and the “Tab” key for characters and dialogue. Revisit the website to pay for the software. At $120.00, the cost is much less than the price for either of the big two. Download the beta of Sophocles 2007 if desired. It boasts a lot of features not available in the current version.
