How Do You Use Smiths Sharpening Rods?
A dull knife can be more dangerous than a sharp one. If a knife is dull, you will use more pressure and try to force the blade. This often results in slippage and cuts. Smith’s sharpening rods can keep a knife sharp and prolong its life. While a hone realigns a knife edge after each use, a sharpening rod actually removes a bit of metal, resulting in a sharper blade. Grasp the handle of the sharpener in one hand while placing the plastic tip on the end of the sharpener on a flat, stable surface such as a counter top or table top. Put enough pressure on the sharpener to keep it from slipping while sharpening. Grasp the knife handle in the other hand and place the heel of the knife on the oval portion of the rod at the top of the sharpening rod at a 20-degree angle. Push the knife down the rod while pulling the knife toward you from the heel to the tip. Keep enough pressure to sharpen the knife and to keep the rod from slipping. Repeat steps 2 and 3 on the other side of the blade. Repeat
