How Do You Use Silicone Baking Sheets?
Silicone baking sheets turn even the worst cookie sheets into nonstick surfaces of the highest quality. Silicone distributes the heat evenly, meaning no more burned bottoms on cookies and other baked goods. Silicone quickly cools, too–the cooking stops once the mat is removed from the oven–helping prevent burns to both you and your baked goods. But perhaps the biggest benefit of switching to silicone is cleanup: Most residue wipes right off and requires no hard scrubbing to remove. Wash a new baking sheet before use in warm, soapy water, then let dry. Place the silicone baking sheet on top of a metal cookie sheet to lend it stability. Spray the baking mat with nonstick cooking spray or oil lightly with cooking oil. Sprinkle flour on top of the oiled mat if baking a chocolate batter. Place the food to be baked on the mat as you would a regular cookie or baking sheet. Bake cookies, meats and any other item you normally would cook on a sheet on the silicone mat.
