How Do You Use Polyester Resin Over Drywall Compound?
Polyester resin can be used on many surfaces including drywall compound, wood, metal, plastic and ceramic when it is catalyzed and mixed with glass fibers to create fiberglass. The surface must be kept clean and dry to ensure adhesion. This usage of polyester resin in fiberglass is generally for thermal or electrical insulation. It can also be used for sound absorption and the reinforcement of a variety of materials. Use sandpaper to smooth drywall compound surface. Eliminate all rough spots and harsh edges. Cut the fiberglass mat. Use the razor knife to cut a piece large enough to cover the entire drywall compound area. Mix the polyester resin with the catalyst in a bucket. Refer to the catalyst for exact mixing amounts. Apply the resin to the drywall compound. Use a felt roller to cover area completely. Place the fiberglass mat onto the resin. Heavily saturate the mat with more resin. Flatten the area with a felt roller and use an air roller to eliminate any air bubbles. Repeat same
