Add detail or a finished look to a flower bed or other landscaping areas of your yard with plastic yard edging. Dig a 6-to-8-inch-deep trench around a flower bed, tree or other location where you want to install the plastic lawn edging: Place a spade shovel on the ground and step on it with your foot to force it into the ground. Repeat along the entire length where you want to install the edging. Measure the length of the area for the edging with a tape measure.
