How Do You Use Percolator Coffee Makers?
Percolator coffee makers are used to brew several cups of coffee by sending boiling water through a center tube, where it is strained over a few ounces of ground coffee. Percolators predate electric drip coffee makers, and are among the first modern methods of brewing coffee. They have the advantage of never needing paper filters, as the brewing bowl has holes that allow water to pass but are too small for the coffee grounds. Open the pot by pulling the top off. Most percolator pots will have a top-load opening. Inside, there is a pierced metal plate, a metal brewing chamber, and a long metal tube that reaches the bottom of the pot. The entire apparatus comes out in one piece by grabbing the second “lip” on the brew chamber. Pour water into the pot and fill it two-thirds full.
