How Do You Use Needle Felting Techniques?
You can add variety to knitting in numerous ways. Using different patterns and stitches are the most obvious, but a more subtle way to change things up is by felting. This technique gives wool knitting a soft, warm look. Needle felting can also add any number of embellishments to your work. Needle felting techniques are relatively simple and, with a bit of practice, your options of embellishment are limited only by your imagination and available wool. Place your piece of felted wool on the Styrofoam or felting block. Make sure the block is under the area you wish to embellish. The block is protecting whatever is under the base piece from the needle, as well as protecting the needle from breaking. Lay out your embellishment design. Use wool yarn for distinct lines and wool roving for softer effects. You can bunch the roving together for a solid look or spread it out for a more translucent look. Prepare your felting needle. Some needles have handles that accommodate more than one needle.
