You’ve heard it said that good writing makes a huge difference in a resume. But how can you improve your resume–or power it up, so to say–without paying big bucks to do it? Select the right words! Here are ways to do it. Look at where your statements start. A good resume uses powerful words–verbs to be exact–to start sentences with. Instead of saying that you were “responsible for…” in the resume, break your statements up into succinct statements. You can use nouns to start sentences in your objective or profile, but the rest of the resume–highlighting duties and accomplishments–should always start with a good old verb. Rev up your accomplishments. Bulletize accomplishments, which are separate from your job duties. How did you go above and beyond? Did you implement a new filing system?
