Helium is a constantly improving website that offers many chances for freelancers or work-at-home writers to make some money and get those all-important bylines. This is accomplished through the use of a service called Marketplace, which is basically a series of writing contests you can enter in order to get your article published. If the contest client does not select the article, Helium will publish it on their site, where it will make you a few pennies. Step 1 Join Helium and PayPal. (Follow the links in Resources; membership to both is free.) Step 2 At the Helium site, go to the red bar at the top of the screen and click on “Marketplace.” Step 3 Read through the list of article topics, noting the name of the relevant publisher name and the due date. Only select topics you are comfortable writing about, because the competition is going to be fierce.
