Always rinse your mouth after using fluoride toothpaste. Never swallow any toothpaste. No toothpaste on the market is made for, or safe for, human ingestion. Step 2 Don’t use too much paste. Use a small ribbon to pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Don’t use more toothpaste then recommended. That won’t help your teeth. Step 3 Teach children under the age of 12 how not to swallow toothpaste. Form good brushing habits, that include using a pea-sized amount of toothpaste and rinsing thoroughly after each brushing Step 4 Don’t use fluoride toothpaste with children under the age of 6, unless specifically told by a dentist.
