How Do You Use Epsom Salt When Planting Roses?
Epsom salt is a mineral compound long known for its many uses and benefits. When added to bath water, it eases sore muscles, and it works well in household cleaning applications. It is also very popular for use in gardening, especially when planting roses. The magnesium in Epsom salt promotes more vigorous growth, increases flowering and even deters pests. If you are planning on planting rose bushes, try using Epsom salt to help them along. It is inexpensive, readily available and easy to use. Soak a new rose bush in a solution of 1 cup of Epsom salt per gallon of water overnight before transplanting. Spread 1 tbsp. of Epsom salt into the hole in which you want to transplant the rose bush. Add Epsom salt to the soil around the bush at a rate of 1 tbsp. for every foot in height of the bush, applied every two weeks. Rake about 1/2 cup of Epsom salt directly into the soil at base of the root stock. This will encourage both flowering canes and healthy new basal cane growth. Mix a solution
