How Do You Use Cosmos As A Companion Plant?
Cosmos are lovely, delicate flowers with fern-like foliage and they do well in just about any garden. If you’d like to attract birds to your garden, this is the plant for you–goldfinches just love the seeds. Know that Cosmos is very easy to grow and makes an exceptional plant for the beginning gardener. You can sow seeds as soon as the weather is warm enough to plant, and seeds are very easy to plant. Thin the seedlings to about 3-inches apart after they come up. Be aware that Cosmos attracts bees and other beneficial insects, along with birds. Predatory insects like the dense, fern-like foliage, too. Plant it just about anywhere in your garden as Cosmos doesn’t have any known enemies. Plant in full sun and well-drained soil. You can also start plants from cuttings or transplants. Just stick the cutting into the soil and make sure you keep the soil moist until the plant has time to set out roots. This should take about a week if you keep the soil moist.
