It is not only convenient to purchase swimming pool chemicals at the grocery store, but it also can be cost efficient. Bleach is a chlorine source and can replace calcium hypochlorite tabs. Bleach has a pH of over 13 and tends to raise the pH level in the pool unless a pH reducer is added regularly. Bleach is not stabilized, and UV rays easily break it down. Once bleach is added to the pool, the bleach will only remain for about two hours. Only follow the instructions if you are using chlorine or bromine chemistry. Pour bleach directly into the skimmer. Unit of measurement is one gallon of bleach equals about 3/4 lb. HTM or other calcium hypochlorie. Add a pH reducer. You can use baking soda for your pH reducer. One lb. of baking soda is the same as one lb. of alkainity increaser. Use them at the same measurement. Mix the bleach with water if you have a smaller pool.
