Concrete roof tile is a very durable roofing option that is appropriate for any roof that can support the weight of three layers of conventional shingles. Concrete roof tiles are installed onto wood slats, or battens, that are evenly spaced across the roof’s surface. Bring enough 1-by-4-inch “battens” to the construction site to cover the roof. By the time you get to the battens you’ll already have all your measurements. Carry the battens to the roof. Take care not to damage the fascia or guttering after the sarking (the moisture barrier underlayment) is laid and punched down over the set out nails. The set out nails were installed earlier, after the rafters were measured in relation to the size and width of the concrete tile. Lay the battens on top of the set out nails.
