How Do You Use Antiquing Kits On Furniture?
Does that new piece of furniture you bought look too, well … new? Did you score a great find at a garage sale or thrift store in need of a little tender loving care to bring it back to life? If slapping a new coat of paint on the furniture is just too boring, try an antiquing kit and give your furniture a whole new look. Identify the term “antiquing.” Antiquing is simply a process of aging furniture, giving it depth and character. Strip the furniture of its finish. Remove the protective top coat on your furniture either by sanding or stripping. This also applies to painted furniture. Paint the unfinished surface with primer. This will ensure proper adhesion of additional base and top coats. Allow the primer to dry before moving on to Step 4. Apply the antiquing product that came with your antiquing kit. A variety of antiquing kits are available, including Rust, Patina and Crackling. Continue applying the antiquing product until you reach your desired result, allowing each coat to dry
