Bayer Advantage is a readily available flea medication for dogs and cats. The active ingredient, imidacloprid, causes paralysis to the flea. The medicine stops fleas from biting your pet within three to five minutes and kills adult fleas within 12 hour of application. The medication also kills larvae within 20 minutes of contact and breaks the life cycle preventing the fleas from laying eggs. Killing the fleas also helps to prevent flea-related illness and other parasites, such as tapeworms. The medication is sold in packages dependent on dog and cat weight. Pull the cap off of the applicator tube while holding it in an upright position. Turn the cap around and place the other end of the cap on the tube, then twist to break the seal and remove the cap. Part the dog’s hair on its back between its shoulder blades. Place the applicator tip in between the shoulder blades against the skin.
