Although many people are self-proclaimed “talkers”, a lot can be said for the power of listening- especially when you are calling upon active listening skills while doing so. Active listening makes your conversational counterpart feel important, and subconsciously, they will lean towards wanting to converse with you more frequently. Here’s how to tap into your own active listening skills. Watch your body language; active listening involves leaning forward, and pointing both of your shoulders in the direction of the speaker. Give the speaker your full attention. Active listening means no eyeballing the television or computer screen during conversations. Minimize distractions to maximize the effects of active listening.
