How Do You Use A Strawberry Huller?
A strawberry huller is a kitchen gadget that allows you to quickly remove the hull, or green leafy stem, from the top of a strawberry without bruising or damaging the fruit. It’s shaped like large tweezers with either wide and flat tips or round scoop-like tips. It can be a faster and more convenient alternative to removing strawberry hulls by hand with a paring knife, especially for large quantities of berries. Start with clean strawberries. Place your strawberries into a colander and run them under cool water to remove dirt, pesticides and stray bacteria. Drain them until most of the water has poured off. Gather your supplies. Use one bowl for cleaned strawberries and one bowl for the discarded hulls. Make sure your huller is clean and dry. Grasp the huller in your dominant hand, or the hand you use to write. Grasp the strawberry in your other hand with the hull facing up. Grip the berry tightly enough to hold it still but not tightly enough as to damage or bruise the fruit. Squeeze
