Finding and polishing your own rocks can be a fun hobby or even a lucrative business. Anyone who spends a lot of time using a rock tumbler eventually works out their own variations to the process so that the finished product looks just the way they want. When getting started, it is good to have some basic guidelines to follow so that you don’t spend a month tumbling your rocks in vain. As you gain more experience using a rotary rock tumbler, you can make slight adjustments to have a more personal look to your finished stones. Open the barrel of the rock tumbler. If the rock tumbler is new or hasn’t been used in awhile, you may need to use a butter knife or flathead screwdriver to pry off the lid. Add rocks to the barrel.
