How Do You Use A Null Modem With A Laptop?
A null modem cable is used to connect two computers to each other and share files between them. It connects the computers through their communication ports using an old-fashioned RS-232 serial connection. This cable is a great way to transfer files onto your laptop from another computer, especially if you have one without a CD drive to install software programs from. The only difficulty arises if your laptop doesn’t have a serial port installed on it. If so, you need an adapter cable with a serial port for your laptop. Make sure your laptop has an RS-232 serial port for a null modem cable. This port will be trapezoidal, with nine pins within it and screw ports on each side. Desktop computers should have this type of port, but some newer laptops might not. Purchase a USB-to-serial adapter for your laptop if it does not have a serial port for a null modem cable.
