How Do You Use A Mortise Chisel?
Uncle Fred left you his entire prize winning group of chisels because he knew that you would value them. Uncle Fred always thought that you had a lot more skill than you really did. In an effort to honor his memory, you decide that it would only be right to not only learn about each of his chisels but make an attempt to use each one. Create an outline with your pencil and template of the area that you wish to remove. Always begin by outlining the area. If you want to remove a section from wood to add hardware, trace the pattern onto the wood. Make a chopping cut with a mortise chisel. Place the blade on the waste side. The waste side is the outside of the part that you will cut out. Place the waste side of the blade on the line drawn with the flat side of the chisel facing the opening and the beveled side toward the waste. Hit the handle of the chisel with a wooden mallet. This will make cuts along the line in the wood that you choose to remove. Continue along the entire lined area. Re
