How Do You Use A Hydrometer For Batteries?

0

Batteries are a part of our everyday life. They are seldom on our minds until there is a problem. With proper maintenance and regular checks many of these problems can be avoided. In order to check the charge level in your vehicle battery you will need to use an instrument called a hydrometer. This instrument measures the concentration of acid in the battery and can tell you if the battery needs to be charged or replaced. Put on proper safety equipment. This includes eye protection and rubber gloves. A full face shield is preferable. Remove a cap from the battery to allow access. (Never use any open flame or match as a source of light. The fumes given off by the battery acid are highly flammable. If a light source is needed, use a flashlight.) Squeeze the bulb and lower the hydrometer into the battery until it enters the acid. Slowly release the bulb and allow the acid to be drawn into the barrel of the hydrometer. Remove the Hydrometer and hold it so the surface of the acid is at eye
