Using a heavy-duty belt sander is a lot different than using a normal belt sander. The first thing to take into consideration is that a heavy-duty belt sander is much more powerful. Without taking the proper safety precautions and using proper procedures, you can quickly ruin your floors or injure yourself. This is especially true if you are using a paper that has a coarse grit. This is why care should be taken when using a heavy-duty belt sander. Check to make sure that you have the correct grit sandpaper for your project. Lower grits are used for first sanding and the higher grits are finer for finishing and polishing. Power on the sander and carefully lower towards the floor in a slow, controlled motion to ensure you don’t remove more than you intend.
