A weed whacker is a gardening tool that uses a gas powered motor to spin a plastic piece of string fast enough to cut the tops off of plants. Weed whackers provide gardeners with a modern convenience to produce a manicured lawn. When used in conjunction with a lawn mower, a weed whacker can work as an edger, cutting the edges of the lawn to the same height as the rest of the lawn. Mow the lawn with a lawn mower to provide the guiding height for the weed whacker. Examine the string on your weed whacker. Verify that it is set to the guiding length on the bottom side of the plastic cover. If your guide is worn off, set it so that it is 1/2 inch shorter than the guide. Refill the weed whacker with extra string if it is low. Put on some thick pants, such as denim, safety glasses and gloves.
