Remove your drill press chuck quickly with the drift key that comes with the drill press. The drift key design unlocks the drill chuck and arbor from the spindle with ease. Adjust the drill press table to remove the chuck with the drift key. It is important to keep your drift key in a safe location so that you can access it when necessary. Attempting to remove the drill press chuck without the drift key can damage the chuck, arbor or spindle. Unplug your drill press power cord from the wall outlet. Raise the drill press table with the handle until the table is 7 inches below the bottom of the drill chuck. Place a block of scrap wood on the table and lower the drill press quill until the bottom of the drill chuck is almost touching the wood. Use your downfeed handle to lower the quill. Insert the taper end of the drift key into the slot on the quill above the drill chuck and arbor.
