How Do You Use A Conventional Corkscrew Opener For A Wine Bottle?
Nearly all wine bottles for many years have been plugged or sealed by the “cork”. This “cork” may be made from actual cork, cork composite, rubber, or synthetics. Regardless of its composition, the “cork” requires the use of the corkscrew to remove it from the bottle the first time. This article runs through this process (with pictures at each step). Remove Outer Seal. A corked wine bottle commonly contains a foil or other material covering over the end of the bottleneck for extra protection and aesthetics. Take a [corkscrew] knife from the top of the bottle down one side for a single slit. (No need to repeat) Remove Seal. The seal should be easily pealed away and can be disposed of. The cork will be seen underneath the seal stuck into bottleneck flush or slightly below the bottle’s end. (Note: A double seal or bottlecap may also need to be removed) Align Corkscrew.
