The only official way to upgrade Windows XP to XP Pro is to wipe all the information off your hard drive, then install the upgraded version. However, there is a way to avoid the hassle of backing up your files, reformatting your drive, and then reloading a Windows upgrade. By simply making some changes to your system registry, you can make Windows XP recognize itself as XP Pro. Click on your computer’s “Start” button. Choose “Run.” Type “regedit” in the box that appears and click “OK.” This will take you to the Registry Editor window. Expand the window so it takes up your entire computer screen.
