How Do You Upgrade Existing Carpet Padding?
Carpet padding deteriorates over time, particularly in well-trodden spots. It becomes thin and worn, no longer providing the soft cushion it once did. Insufficient or worn padding impacts the life of your carpet, no longer protecting the carpet fiber from being mashed into the floor with each step. However, you can upgrade your existing carpet padding. Use a flat metal stair tool to lift the existing carpet from the baseboards along the perimeter of the room. Be careful not to tear the carpet edging; if you do, you may still be able to salvage your carpet. Add to the crown molding along the edges to cover up any frayed pieces. Pull the carpet off the installed tackless strips, or use a metal scraper to lift the carpet glue. The carpet should come up fairly easily once it is released from the baseboards. Roll the carpet as you release it from the strips. Examine the carpet padding for any stains, moisture damage or tears. Disinfect stains or mildew with bleach solution, and repair tears
