Windows 98 can be removed from your computer in order to install a fresh copy of Windows XP. Uninstalling Windows 98 will remove all of the files and folders you have saved on your computer, so it is important to backup the files you would like to keep. Save important files to an external storage source such as a CD or external hard drive before uninstalling Windows 98. Make sure that your computer meets the system requirements for Windows XP before installing it (see link in Resources). Click the “Start” button in the lower left-hand corner of your screen. Highlight the “Settings” button, and click the “Control Panel” button in the menu that appears. Double click the “Add/Remove Programs” icon in the Control Panel window. Double click the “Uninstall Windows 98” button, and click the “Add/Remove” button that appears. Click the “Yes” button in the Windows that pops up. Click “Yes” when asked if you would like your disks to be checked for any errors. Click “Yes” to shut down your compute
