If you want to upgrade your computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP, you don’t actually have to go through the trouble of manually removing Windows 98 before this process can begin. The installation utility for Windows XP will format your hard drive, which will erase everything on it including your operating system. So to uninstall Windows 98 and install Windows XP, you only need to have access to your Windows XP installation CD. Check the system specifications of your computer to make sure it can handle the advanced requirements of Windows XP. Upgrading from Windows 98 to Windows XP is a substantial leap, and your computer will need at least a 233MHz processor, 64MB of RAM and 1.5GB of hard drive space to run Windows XP properly.
