Sometimes trying to understand the Salary Tables for Civilian jobs with the Federal Government can be confusing. There is the General Schedule, which is the base salary, then the locality tables based on where you live, and then ten steps within every grade. What does that mean for you and the salary for the Federal Government jobs you are applying for? Some of the steps below will help you in sorting through some of the confusion. First, go to the website for the Office of Personnel Management, located at www.opm.gov. You will see a tab on the right side on the screen titled “Salaries and Wages,” click there.
