How Do You Unclog A Kitchen Sink At The Wall?
When a kitchen sink has a clog, it sometimes can be unclogged by using a plunger to flush the clog loose. Some tougher clogs may be in the the plumbing at or beyond the wall and require a plumbing snake in order to break it up. A plumbing snake is a coiled steel line with a cutter on the end that slices through the clog as the snake is turned. Using a snake can require some getting used to, but even the novice can acquire the skill in a short period of time. Remove the p-trap and the straight pipe back to the wall under the sink. Loosen the nut that holds the p-trap to the tailpiece of the sink using channel lock pliers. Loosen the nut that holds the straight piece of pipe that goes to the wall and take the p-trap and straight pipe out. Pull an old rag through the straight pipe and the p-trap to clean out any debris that may be built up inside. Rinse the straight pipe and p-trap completely with water in another sink. Insert the end of the snake into the pipe in the wall and let it out
