How Do You Un-Dye A White Dress Shirt That Was Dyed Blue?
If you’ve ever dyed a white shirt blue, either for a Halloween or theatrical costume, you probably thought you’d have to buy a new white shirt to replace it. However, as with most common stains, there is a simple way to return that shirt to normal. With a few common household items, you can get your dyed shirt back to its original whiteness. Use the instructions listed on the bleach bottle and make a diluted bleach solution with the hot water. Make enough to fully soak the shirt in the bucket or washtub. Let the shirt soak for 1 hour. Make a solution out of vinegar and water using 1 tbsp. of vinegar for every 1 qt. of water. Rinse the shirt in the vinegar solution. Run the shirt through a normal wash cycle using hot water and bleach in your washing machine. Follow the instructions on the bottle for washing clothes with bleach. Allow the shirt to hang dry. If the dye remains, you may have to purchase a prepackaged color remover/stripper and follow the instructions on the box.
