A common complaint from Windows 2000 users is the operating system selection screen during the boot process. Windows 2000 provides users with a menu to select the desired version of Windows 2000 they wish to open during the boot process. For most users, there is only one system shown. This can add an extra thirty seconds to the boot process. To save time and make the boot process simpler, you can turn off the Windows 2000 select operating system feature. Right click “Start” and select “Explore” to open Windows Explorer. Click “Tools” and “Folder Options” to change which file types are shown. Click “View” and select the “Show Hidden Files and Folders” radio button. Click “Apply” and “OK” to exit. Click “Local Disk C:” to browse files on the C: drive. Locate “boot.ini” and double click the file to open it in Notepad for editing.
