Turning an audio CD into an MP3 is a great way to create a backup of your CD on your computer. Doing so is free with the help of an audio-conversion program such as iTunes, Switch or dBpoweramp. The MP3 audio files can then be put on an MP3 player, emailed to a friend, burned to another CD or simply stored on a hard drive. Open iTunes. Open iTunes Preferences, then select “Import Settings.” Select “MP3 Encoder” in the drop-down “Import Using” menu. Then click “OK” to exit the “Import Settings” menu. Click “OK” again to exit the iTunes Preferences menu. Insert an audio CD into the CD drive of your computer. Click “Yes” when prompted by iTunes to import the CD into your library. You have now converted the CD’s tracks to MP3. Insert an audio CD into the CD drive of your computer. Open Switch. Click “Add Files” and select the audio CD that you would like to turn into an MP3.
