How Do You Troubleshoot Using An Electrical Schematic?
Electrical schematics are the electrician’s road map for finding her way around complex electrical equipment. There are two ways of troubleshooting any piece of electrical equipmen–the trial and error method and the systematic method. Using the trial and error method, you jump around checking components in no particular pattern, not even knowing if the component that you are checking is involved with the problem you’re trying to solve. The systematic approach involves checking only those components that could cause the problem at hand and checking those components in an orderly fashion. The trial and error approach could result in hours of wasted time, and time is money, even for the home handy person. The systematic approach, using a wiring schematic to locate the components in the troublesome circuit allows the repair person to concentrate on just those components. Know the problem that you are trying to solve and then locate all the components that could cause that problem on the s
