A camera’s memory card is the DVD of your digital camera–a removable storage device for photos that can be transferred from camera to camera, or from your camera to a computer. Memory cards come in many shapes and sizes, although there are a few industry standards. Like all electronics, memory cards are subject to occasional errors. But troubleshooting a memory card is easy. Step 1 Read your camera’s manual to determine if you have the correct memory card. Step 2 Research your memory card type. Some memory cards are prone to particular problems that others do not have. For example, you can damage a compact flash card or your camera by inserting the card into the camera incorrectly. This problem is not possible with other types of memory cards that do not connect to the device with pins. Step 3 Clean all contact points with an eraser to determine if dirty contact points are the issue, then insert the memory card in the slot. Determine that your memory card has been inserted properly.
